International Child Custody Disputes

What happens when a married parent leaves with a child to a foreign country, and refuses to return?  It happened to David Goldman, and for 4 ½ years, he was not allowed to see his son. In that time, his wife divorced him in a foreign country, remarried, and died, leaving Mr. Goldman’s child in the custody of her surviving husband in a foreign country.  You can read much more about Mr. Goldman's struggle to assert his rights and the obstacles he had to overcome in doing so by clicking HERE.

I am a Bahamian citizen, i am married to native Charlestonian, we were married in the Bahamas and had one son there. On October 1st, 2007 my wife left the Bahamas 8 months pregnant with our dauighter and took my son with her. As she was 8 months preganant I did not want to stress her or the baby so I did not push for return and sent her money every week, plus I honestly thought it was hormones, our marriage was not on the rocks but she did have a very tough pregnancy. In order to prevent me from following her she took my passport or destroyed it I don't know but it was gone. My daughter was born on November 20th, 2007 in Charleston. In Februarry 08 my wife filed for custody in Chalreston and accused me of abuse prior to October 1st, 2007, she filed no request for protection and has produced no evidence other than a few emails from me that were written after I was accused of abuse by her, bad emails I admit, they went on for about two months and have not happened again. I spent $18,000.00 on lawyers here and there fighting her false accusations only to finally get to court in Charleston and have the case dismissed in 3 minutes because my wife's lawyer forgot to include an affidavit of jurisdiction. I thought I won. Two days later they re-filed with a motion for divorce and the aforementioned affidavit. My lawyer informed me I now need to send another $10,000.00 retainer to fight this new case. My wife's lawyer on the other hand is working on the assumption I will be orderd to pay him. Now I am forced to represent myself. I need help, I am not eligible for legal aid or pro bono because I am not a resident or citizen of the USA. Please let me know where I can get help, I have a final hearing on April 17th and I need help desperately. I only want time with my kids, I only want to be a part of my children's lives. Please help me.

Thank you
