Happy Labor Day

Posted by J. Benjamin Stevens | Sep 01, 2013 | 0 Comments

The Stevens Firm Family Law Center will be closed on Monday, September 2, 2013, in observance of Labor Day. We will reopen Tuesday at 8:00 a.m. and look forward to serving clients in Spartanburg, Greenville, and all across the Upstate of South Carolina at that time.

In the meantime, you may be interested in these interesting facts about Labor Day:

  • Labor Day is celebrated annually on the first Monday in September, and it is dedicated to the social and economic achievements of American workers.
  • The first Labor Day holiday was celebrated on Tuesday, September 5, 1882, in New York City, and it has taken place each year since.
  • There is no consensus as to who first proposed the holiday, as some believe it was Matthew Maguire, a machinist, while others believe it was Peter J. McGuire, general secretary of the Brotherhood of Carpenters and Joiners and a cofounder of the American Federation of Labor.
  • Labor Day constitutes a yearly national tribute to the contributions workers have made to the strength, prosperity, and well-being of our country.
