About Krystal L. Watson

Krystal Watson is an accomplished civil litigation and family law attorney with 17 years of experience advocating for individuals and families in state courts. Her practice draws on extensive experience in family law, domestic violence, custody, divorce, real estate, probate, estate planning, and other civil matters. Known for her thoughtful approach and strategic advocacy, Krystal brings both courtroom experience and a deep understanding of the personal and legal challenges that can shape a family's future.

Throughout her career, Krystal has built a reputation for providing sophisticated, client-centered representation while remaining attentive to the circumstances behind each legal matter. Her experience spans private practice, civil legal services, and nonprofit leadership, giving her a distinctive perspective on litigation, negotiation, and problem-solving. Whether representing a client in a contested family matter, protecting a client's interests in a civil dispute, or helping a family plan for the future, Krystal approaches each matter with careful preparation, sound legal judgment, and a focus on achieving meaningful results for her clients.

Krystal began her legal career in Michigan as a Staff Attorney with Legal Services of Northern Michigan, where she represented clients in civil matters including family law, housing, and public benefits. She handled litigation preparation, client representation, and court advocacy, gaining early experience working directly with individuals navigating complex legal and personal circumstances.

After moving to South Carolina, Krystal served as a Staff Attorney and later Managing Attorney with South Carolina Legal Services. There, she represented clients in family law, domestic violence, custody, eviction defense, foreclosure, public benefits, and other civil matters. As Managing Attorney, she supervised attorneys and support staff, led litigation strategy, and helped expand access to civil legal services for low-income and vulnerable individuals throughout the Upstate.

In 2020, Krystal founded K. LAWS, LLC, a civil litigation law firm in downtown Spartanburg serving clients throughout the Upstate. As the firm's owner and managing attorney, she represented clients in family law, real estate, probate, estate planning, and other civil matters, managing cases from initial consultation through resolution. During this same period, she also served as a part-time attorney with Project R.E.S.T., representing survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault in civil legal matters, including protective orders and family court proceedings. She later closed her private practice as she transitioned into full-time leadership with Project R.E.S.T.

Krystal joined Project R.E.S.T. in a full-time leadership capacity in 2022, first serving as Acting Executive Director and later as President and CEO. In that role, she led a Spartanburg-based nonprofit serving survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault across Spartanburg, Cherokee, and Union counties. She oversaw trauma-informed programs including emergency shelter, advocacy, and legal advocacy services. In 2024, Krystal launched Project R.E.S.T.'s Legal Advocacy Services Program to expand survivors' access to legal support and strengthen systems of safety and accountability. Through the program, she continued to provide direct legal representation to survivors in select matters, including Order of Protection hearings, while serving as President and CEO.

In addition to her litigation experience, Krystal is committed to public legal education and professional leadership. She is a frequent presenter for South Carolina Bar continuing legal education programs on domestic violence, intimate partner violence, custody, and survivor safety. She has also spoken on the intersection of gender-based violence, human trafficking, and firearms prohibitions and has partnered with community and civic organizations to develop legal clinics and educational programs designed to expand access to justice.

Krystal currently serves in the South Carolina Bar House of Delegates for the 7th Judicial Circuit and as the 7th Circuit Representative for the South Carolina Black Lawyers Association. She previously served on the South Carolina Bar Board of Governors.

At the core of Krystal's practice is a belief that effective advocacy begins with listening, understanding the circumstances of each client, and developing a thoughtful legal strategy tailored to their goals. She is committed to providing compassionate, strategic representation while helping clients move forward with greater clarity and confidence.
